Note about the admission test.
The admission test is the student's
opportunity to demonstrate the willingness to explore advanced mathematics
topics and the ability to tackle challenging, non-routine problems. It is
not only the raw test score that matters but the love of mathematics that
becomes transparent in the student's application. We do realize, however, that some students
who were never exposed with the Math Competition may feel
very challenged with the type of problems in the admission test. It doesn't mean these
students do not have the potential.
For this reason, we are offering an entry level program this year to those students who are
really good at Math, and motivated to
have more challenges. These students will be admitted mostly based on a strong recommendation
from a Math teacher or mentor, and a compelling parent statement detailing the student's Math
talents, motivation, grades at school. Students are still required to complete and submit the
admission test for placement purpose.
Note about the Parent's Statement. Parent statement is an effective communication piece to help us
understand the reason you send your child to this program, so we can help your child benefitted from this program at a
more individualized level. For those parents who do not speak English, it's OK to write in your native language,
even though we can't guarantee we'll be able to find someone to translate it.
Please write to us addressing the following questions.
- Please describe your child's academic interests, strengths and
weaknesses.
- Please describe you child's personal strengths and weaknesses.
- How do you think you child will respond to this intense academic
program?
- Is there anything you would like us to know about your child?
